2024 Demos, Highlights

April 8TH, Watercolor/Inks Demo with

LORRAINE RIMMELIN

April Demo-Inks-NSAG 2024.png

Sally Anne Keller demonstrated two watercolor seascapes using a simple pallet. Her first painting included a 2-color scene in burnt sienna + ultramarine blue. She completed her second painting by adding aurelian yellow as the tertiary color.

Working quickly with wet-on-wet technique, she added salt to enhance the scene, and also used a razor while developing her signature atmospheric style. We loved her warmth and candor and appreciated her interactive teaching style!!

Sally Anne will be at the Mill Pond Gallery Saturday, March 9th from 2pm – 4pm for a Reception featuring the "Winner's Exhibit of the American Watercolor Society." Congratulations!!

She also offers an upcoming class, in May 2024, teaching abroad in Italy ( for more information, click here Opportunities )

Thank you so much Sally Anne Keller!!

MARCH 4TH, Watercolor  Demo with

SALLY ANNE KELLER

Sally Anne Keller, a watercolorist with over 20 years of experience, draws inspiration from the interplay of light, color, and atmosphere found in nature. Her captivating works often feature land and seascapes infused with elements like fog, dust, wind, rain, and sunshine.

FEBRUARY 5th OIL DEMONSTRATION with Maureen Pouder

We had a packed house last night at the North Shore Art Guild meeting to view this amazing artist, Maureen Pouder, who gave us an oil demonstration. It took her 1/2 hour to paint this beautiful seascape. It's wonderful to watch such a talented artist in action. Thank you so much Maureen!!

Book: Art-Write, The Writing Guide for Visual Artists

Author: Vicki Krohn Amorose

Amazon: $7.64

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1937303128?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Review by NSAG VP, Paul Cammarata

Good book to help artist write about their own artwork and for the business of promoting themselves as an artist. The author offers step-by-step approaches and work sheets to help you build and organize you thoughts.

It is a short read and overall a very good book. The exercises  can be very helpful, particularly for anyone who hasn’t written for their art ventures before. I do wish the author spent more time on the bio  and a little less on the statement, however,  she has good insight. You can also tell that she has a passion for art.

Below is the breakdown of the book,

Pages 1-12: is the preface and introduction

Pages 13-69: is about creating an artist statement with exercises with word and phrase suggestions and work sheets.

Pages 71-105: Has a variety of subjects:

  • Your elevator pitch (which she calls your handshake speech)

  • Bio, Cover Letter and Resume

  • How to write a press Release

  • Filling out forms and writing proposals

Pages 106-109: Recap (titled: Look Again)

Amazon write up:

To teach artists how to write about their own artwork. This concise and current career resource is filled with achievable advice on how to write for art promotion and sales. The book offers a step-by-step approach to create a professional artist statement, with thinking and writing exercises to ease the process and develop authentic and clear content. Opportunities in the art world often begin with the artist's own writing; for exhibitions, funding, press releases and email inquiry letters. Art-Write offers comprehensive direction to artists who want to enhance their visual work with effective language. Author Vicki Krohn Amorose combines the sensibility of an artist with the practicality of a copywriter, offering an understanding of her readers along with generous wit and encouragement.

Framing Demonstration |  Jane Fuhrer, Owner of Sidewalk Alley Art & Framing

A note From Jane:

As a small business owner in the Art Gallery & Custom Framing industry I would like to speak about both areas of work. First, the importance of preservation and presentation of all works of art, with examples of different materials to keep artwork safe and perfectly displayed throughout its lifetime. Also, I would like to share some selling techniques as far as art sales go, with examples of ways to reproduce work at different price points past just selling the original work of art, and of course, answer any questions the artists have to clarify ways to potentially sell their work.

Loose Landscapes in Watercolor | Lorraine Rimmelin

Do you want to loosen up your painting style?

Painting loose requires the ability to let go of controlling watercolor and allowing the paint to move freely on the paper. Loosing control during a painting can be an artists worse nightmare but in this workshop loosing control is what helps create these dramatic landscapes. What’s most impressive about this painting process is the movement of pigment & water and the stunning shapes & designs you will achieve.
